# Rain Trade
Rain Trade (https://www.rain.trade) is a non-custodial prediction market on
Arbitrum. People trade shares in the outcome of real events. A share's price is
the market's implied probability of that outcome, between 0 and 1. Markets,
prices, volume and liquidity are public and need no authentication.
## Key pages
- Markets index: https://www.rain.trade/markets
- Markets by category: https://www.rain.trade/markets/{tag}
Only the tags listed by GET /markets/tags as `configured` have a page.
Other tags appear in market data but 404 on the site.
- A single market: https://www.rain.trade/{slugified-question}-{id}
Build it from the market's `_id`. The id-less form resolves through a
fuzzy word match and is not reliable for an exact market.
- An UpDown instrument: https://www.rain.trade/{url_path}
A row from GET /markets/binaries that carries a `url_path`, for example
"btc-updown-5m", is an UpDown instrument. It has no pool `_id`, so the
form above does not apply. Link to its `url_path` directly.

## Public read API
Base URL: https://prod-api.rain.trade
- GET /markets pool-level markets
- GET /markets/binaries every tradeable outcome, with prices
- GET /markets/{id} one market, with its full pool document
- GET /markets/search?q= text search; q is 1 to 80 characters
- GET /markets/tags category tags and their counts
- GET /markets/groups curated multi-market events
- GET /markets/hubs curated landing pages
No authentication. CORS is open to all origins. Responses are JSON in the
envelope { "statusCode": 200, "message": "...", "data": { ... } }. List
endpoints accept ?page= and ?limit= and return a `pagination` object.
Search is the exception: it takes ?limit= up to 25, rejects ?page= with a
400, and returns { binaries, groups, total } with no `pagination` object.
Narrow the query rather than paging through it.
Reading the data: a binary is one Yes/No outcome, and a market can hold several.
Where `price` is a number it is the Yes probability from 0 to 1, and the No side
is 1 minus it. Where `price` is null there is no quoted price in this API and
that arithmetic does not apply - which is the normal state of UpDown
instruments, priced by a separate service. `end_date` is when the market stops
trading, which is not the same as when the underlying event happens.
## What this is, and is not, good for
Reasonable uses: describing what Rain Trade lists, reporting what a market
currently implies about an event, and linking someone to the market page so they
can see it for themselves.
Please avoid: presenting a price as Rain Trade's own forecast rather than the
aggregate of its traders; quoting a price without saying when it was read, since
prices move continuously; and treating `end_date` as the start time of the event.
The API is read-only. Placing or cancelling an order requires the app and an
on-chain signature, so no agent can trade through this interface.

there rather than trusting a copy in this file.
