# Temporal
> Temporal is a Durable Execution platform. Developers write Workflows and Activities in ordinary code using a Temporal SDK; the Temporal Service persists each execution's state and full Event History, so applications resume exactly where they left off after process crashes, network failures, deploys, and restarts. Temporal is open source and can be self-hosted, or run as Temporal Cloud, a managed service billed on Actions and stored events.
Key things to know when using this file:
- Deep technical documentation lives at `docs.temporal.io`. Every docs page is available as raw Markdown by appending `.md` to its URL. The documentation index is at https://docs.temporal.io/llms.txt, which links to per-section indexes. The entire docs corpus concatenated into one file is at https://docs.temporal.io/llms-full.txt (~7 MB; prefer the section indexes and individual `.md` pages).
- Pages on `temporal.io` are HTML only, with one exception: https://temporal.io/pricing.md.
