# Frankly.land
> Frankly.land is the personal website of Frank Nanninga, a Dutch AI Creative Technologist who makes things with AI that people actually use. The site is a 3D island in the browser (three.js) where visitors ride Frank's yellow fixie past his projects: the sun-finding app Coffee In The Sun, the AI artist Berend Botje and his album Petje Op, the AI podcast SexGPT and De Revolutie van de Kabouters, a book three generations of his family wrote. Around them: an AI Lab, a velodrome, a stunt park, a festival field, a beach club, a harbour, a lighthouse, a forest and a lake. All projects are Frank's personal projects; the site offers no services.
The site is in Dutch and English. The island runs on the real Amsterdam clock and calendar: the sun stands where it really stands, it gets dark at night and the seasons change. Every place has its own shareable page that opens the island right there, and every page contains the same content as plain text (text version: https://frankly.land/?text).
## About Frank Nanninga
- [Frank Nanninga · AI Creative Technologist](https://frankly.land/frank) ([Nederlands](https://frankly.land/frank)): who he is, his projects and the media he appeared in. English version: https://frankly.land/en/frank
- [What is an AI Creative Technologist?](https://frankly.land/en/ai-creative-technologist) ([Nederlands](https://frankly.land/ai-creative-technologist)): Frank's explanation of the role, with a one-sentence definition, how it differs from related roles, the skills and his own way of working.
- In the media: guest on POM, Podcast over Media with Alexander Klöpping and Ernst-Jan Pfauth ("Laat AI je podcast maken", 28 June 2023), Bright Podcast ("Hoe maak je een podcast over AI, mét AI?", 22 March 2023) and Het Podcastwapen (#8, 20 July 2023); mentioned in Alexander Klöpping's newsletter (9 March 2023). Coffee In The Sun was covered by 9to5Mac, IamExpat (50,000 visits in its first week), DutchReview, JAN Magazine, iCulture, Girlscene, RTL Nieuws, De Telegraaf and the Croatian tech site Netokracija. De Telegraaf also wrote about the book De Revolutie van de Kabouters.
## Projects
- [Coffee In The Sun](https://frankly.land/coffee-in-the-sun): Frank's app for iPhone and Android that shows which café terraces are in the sun right now, from the real height of every building and the real position of the sun; it works anywhere and is available in 36 languages. Built with AI; featured by RTL Nieuws, De Telegraaf, 9to5Mac, iCulture, DutchReview, IamExpat, Girlscene and JAN Magazine. Web: https://coffeeinthesun.app/nl/ · [App Store](https://apps.apple.com/app/coffee-in-the-sun/id6746173958) · [Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.franklyland.coffeeinthesun). On the island: a village terrace lit by the real Amsterdam sun.
- [Petje Op by Berend Botje](https://frankly.land/petje-op): Berend Botje is an AI artist; Frank is the maker behind him (concept and creative direction by Frank, music and vocals made with AI). His debut album Petje Op turns twelve Dutch nursery rhymes everybody knows into hip-hop; out since Friday 11 September 2026, digitally and on vinyl (12 tracks, 35 minutes). On the island it is a giant record player that plays a 50-second preview of every track and Poesje Mauw in full, while the LED screen at the AI Lab shows its music video in sync. Full album: [Spotify](https://open.spotify.com/album/4t61Wyl1VD1qhsBx8rvVLp) · [Apple Music](https://music.apple.com/nl/album/petje-op/6801634520) · [TIDAL](https://tidal.com/album/552452178) · [Deezer](https://www.deezer.com/album/1054456682) · [waarisberendbotje.nu](https://waarisberendbotje.nu/).
- [SexGPT](https://frankly.land/sexgpt): an automatic AI podcast Frank made in collaboration with Tonny Media. He generated the stories and the voices with AI, locally on his own hardware: 35 erotic stories, one a day from December 2023 to January 2024. In English, 18+. All 35 episodes play in the studio on the island's radio hill. Feed and apps: https://pod.link/1720355465
- [De Revolutie van de Kabouters](https://frankly.land/kabouters): a Dutch book by three generations of Nanningas. Frank's grandfather Willem Nanninga started it on his typewriter some 50 years ago and it stayed unfinished; decades later his daughter Wilma (Frank's aunt, who worked at De Telegraaf) wrote the ending he had in mind after she retired, and Frank wrote the middle part with AI as co-author, carefully directed so it joins his grandfather's voice, and made the illustrations. The story: the gnomes of the quiet village of Groenkant hear their forest is threatened and rise up against people with bulldozers; the gnome girl Marija plays a special role. Hardcover, 147 pages, published by BoekenGilde on 1 September 2025 (ISBN 9789090405964; editor Ramon Otting). Order: [bol.com](https://www.bol.com/nl/nl/p/de-revolutie-van-de-kabouters/9300000238097669/). On the island a giant copy lies in a forest clearing with grandpa's typewriter and gnomes around it; four more gnomes hide in the forest.
## Places on the island (each URL opens the 3D island at that spot)
- [Home square](https://frankly.land/): the start, with the big FRANKLY.LAND letters you can knock over, the NEW FIT clothes shop (change Frank's outfit) and the solar tree.
- [AI Lab](https://frankly.land/ai-lab): a glass and timber pavilion with a mega GPU inside, a glowing neural-network sculpture, a robot barista that serves cappuccino, the Microduck robot (it waddles, sits and skates on rollers), a chatbot kiosk with pre-written lines, an LED screen with generative art (and the Poesje Mauw music video whenever that song plays) and delivery drones.
- [Velodrome](https://frankly.land/velodroom): banked open-air track with a lap timer and your best time.
- [Stunt park](https://frankly.land/stuntpark): mega ramp, half-pipe, pump-track rollers, two trampolines, a funbox and an AIRTIME screen.
- [Ferris wheel](https://frankly.land/reuzenrad): on the Petje Op festival field, with food trucks, bunting and a disco ball; in the evening fireworks go up while the record plays.
- [Beach](https://frankly.land/strand): beach huts, a lifeguard tower, kites, a sand castle you can ride through and a beach club with a DJ booth, bean bags and hammocks.
- [Harbour](https://frankly.land/haven): a timber jetty with Berend Botje's boat.
- [Lighthouse](https://frankly.land/vuurtoren): on its rock in the dunes; the beam sweeps the sea at night.
- [Waterfall](https://frankly.land/waterval): pours into the lake, with ducks, a heron and leaping fish.
- [Forest](https://frankly.land/bos): a dirt trail loop with a fox, rabbits, the gnomes' clearing with the giant book (see De Revolutie van de Kabouters), four hidden gnomes and fireflies at night.
- [Contact](https://frankly.land/contact): the mailbox where you write Frank a letter.
## Play
- Ride with WASD or the arrow keys (phones: a joystick), Shift to sprint, Space to hop, B for the bell, M for the map, E to interact.
- Collect 40 coffee beans: the last one sets off fireworks and earns the golden fixie for good. Unlock achievements (one is a secret), find Rebble, Frank's dog, who hides somewhere new on every visit, hunt for the four gnomes hidden in the forest (find all four and they gather at the book), play pétanque by the café, and set a lap time.
- Other islanders ride the paths on city bikes and ring their bells; there is a night market after sunset, a rare rain shower with a rainbow, and seasons that follow the real calendar (no live weather).
