# Coffee in the Sun

> Coffee in the Sun is an iPhone and Android app that shows, on a live map, which terraces, cafes, benches and sports pitches are in the sun and which are in shade, right now or at any date and time you choose. It works at street scale rather than city scale, and it answers anywhere, not only in places somebody has written a guide about.

Last updated: 2026-09-23. iPhone version 2.4.1 (requires iOS 26.2). Android version 2.0.1 (requires Android 8.0). Available in 36 languages. Free to download, with an optional Pro subscription or one-off lifetime unlock. Published by Frankly Land, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Pro removes those limits and adds saved places, sun alerts, the full year of sun hours, other days on the timeline, jumping to search results, the outdoor sports layers and the full weather sheet.

## Accuracy

- [What it does not account for](https://coffeeinthesun.app/faq/): the app answers whether the sun can reach a spot. Trees, awnings, parasols and fences are not part of that, terrain is not modelled, and cloud cover is not part of the shadow answer. Where building data for an area is thin the app says so and treats the result as an upper bound. Coverage is best across Europe and good in most large cities elsewhere.
