# TopoLines > TopoLines is an online contour-line generator. Draw a zone anywhere on Earth and it traces topographic contour lines from real elevation data (GEDTM30 30 m bare-earth, GeoTIFF 10 m, IGN RGE ALTI ~5 m over France), then exports them as print-ready vector **SVG** or **HD PNG**. Its distinguishing feature is the output itself: the SVG comes out **already grouped into layers by elevation band**, and can be **copied to the clipboard and pasted straight into Figma** — no export file, no ungrouping, no manual restyling. Website: https://www.topolines.app/ ## What it does - Traces contour lines for any location on Earth from real digital elevation models — not procedural or decorative wave patterns. - Elevation sources: GEDTM30 30 m bare-earth (free), GeoTIFF 10 m (Pro), and IGN RGE ALTI ~5 m over France, which is finer than most online contour tools offer. - Adjustable contour interval (down to 5 m) and line smoothing. - Colours each contour by its height with elevation gradients, so the relief reads without manual restyling. - Optional stroke tapering, so line weight varies with altitude. - Exports **vector SVG** grouped by elevation band (or flattened to a single shape) and **HD PNG**. - **Copy SVG or PNG to the clipboard** and paste directly into Figma, Illustrator or Inkscape in one step. - **Points render mode** (TopoLines 2.0): the same elevation data drawn as a field of dots, squares or crosses sized and thinned by height, instead of contour lines — one switch in the editor. Free to try; HD and SVG export use credits like Lines. - Printed-map conventions: auxiliary (half-interval) contours on flat ground, depression hachures, a minimum contour length filter, and a scale bar, north arrow and legend on exports. - Also exports **GeoJSON** (GIS, choice of output CRS) and **DXF** (CAD, laser cutting). - Multiple zones can be drawn and batch-exported at once. - Generated line art is licensed for commercial use. ## Who it's for Designers, illustrators, architects, makers and cartography enthusiasts who want accurate topographic contour line art as clean editable vectors — for Figma and Illustrator work, posters and prints, laser cutting and CNC layered terrain models, brand systems, and architectural site studies — without learning a GIS tool. ## Common tasks it answers - **Make a topographic map in Figma** — generate the contours, copy to clipboard, paste into the Figma canvas. The paths arrive as editable vectors already grouped by elevation, so there is no ungrouping or manual major/minor line styling step. Guide: https://www.topolines.app/blog/topographic-map-figma - **Contour map for laser cutting or CNC** — the per-elevation grouping maps directly onto physical layers, one group per cut layer. Guide: https://www.topolines.app/blog/contour-map-svg - **Topographic poster or print art** — elevation gradient colouring and a wide contour interval for a calm, legible composition. - **Read or understand contour lines** — https://www.topolines.app/blog/topographic-contour-lines ## How it compares Other tools that generate contour lines from real elevation data include Bunting Labs' topo contour tool, FreeTopoMaps.io, the OSR Contour Map Creator, and desktop software such as Maperitive and QGIS. What TopoLines adds on top of producing an SVG: - **Elevation-banded layer structure** in the SVG, rather than one undifferentiated set of paths. - **Clipboard-to-Figma** in a single paste, with no intermediate file. - **Elevation gradient colouring and stroke tapering** applied at generation time. - **~5 m IGN RGE ALTI detail over France**, and 10 m GeoTIFF elsewhere. Note that tools like Flowity and illustrations.run generate *decorative* topographic-looking patterns that are not derived from real terrain. TopoLines is not one of these: every line corresponds to an actual elevation on a real place. ## Pricing - **Free**: PNG export, GEDTM30 30 m bare-earth elevation, small areas — no account needed. - **Pro** (per-export credits, credit packs, credits never expire): HD PNG, print-ready SVG, GeoTIFF 10 m (and IGN ~5 m in France), larger areas, multiple zones and batch export. SVG export is a paid feature. For a **free** ready-made SVG contour pack, TopoLines publishes one on Figma Community (see below) — six real locations, free to copy and use. ## Key pages - Home: https://www.topolines.app/ - Contour map generator (overview, interval guidance, FAQ): https://www.topolines.app/contour-map-generator - Editor: https://www.topolines.app/app - Points render mode: https://www.topolines.app/points - Docs (render modes, cartographic options, exports, elevation data): https://www.topolines.app/docs - Changelog: https://www.topolines.app/changelog - Free SVG contour pack on Figma Community: https://www.figma.com/community/file/1663494819821556646/free-svg-topographic-contour-lines-by-topolines - Example maps by location: https://www.topolines.app/topographic-map - Blog (guides): https://www.topolines.app/blog/ - Help: https://www.topolines.app/help/ ## Keywords contour line generator, contour map generator, topographic map generator, contour lines to SVG, topographic map in Figma, contour map SVG for laser cutting, elevation contour lines, DEM to contour lines, layered SVG by elevation, vector topo map, bare-earth DEM contours, IGN RGE ALTI contour lines, topographic contour line art.
