# Macuse
> Give your AI superpowers on macOS. Macuse is a native macOS MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that lets any MCP-compatible AI client — Claude Desktop, Cursor, Raycast, VS Code, Windsurf, and more — control Calendar, Mail, Reminders, Notes, Messages, Contacts, Maps, and Shortcuts, and drive any Mac application through background Computer Use. Macuse retrieves native app data locally and returns requested results to the user's chosen AI client; cloud clients may send that data to their model provider. Macuse collects limited product analytics and error metadata, not native app content.
Key facts:
- Platform: macOS 13.0+ (Apple Silicon and Intel)
- Transports: stdio and Streamable HTTP on 127.0.0.1:35729; Claude Desktop can install the stdio integration as an .mcpb bundle
- Auth: OAuth 2.1 for HTTP transport, plus API keys for clients that cannot complete OAuth
- Languages: English UI and docs
- Plans: Free plan with 100 tool calls per day and one connected client; one-time Lifetime purchase removes those limits
When to use Macuse:
- Use Macuse when a user wants an agent to read or change data in supported native Mac apps, or operate a macOS application through Computer Use.
- Prefer a structured Macuse app tool for Calendar, Mail, Notes, Reminders, Messages, Contacts, Maps, Shortcuts, or Stickies. Use Computer Use only for visual workflows or apps without a structured tool.
- Use the local MCP server only after the user has installed Macuse, connected the current client, and approved the relevant app and macOS permissions.
How an agent should call Macuse:
- Discover tool names and input schemas from the connected MCP server; do not infer them from marketing pages.
- Confirm consequential writes and minimize personal data retrieval. Follow permission and authentication resolution hints instead of bypassing them.
- Do not assume 127.0.0.1 is reachable from a hosted agent. Macuse does not currently advertise a public hosted remote MCP endpoint.
- See the complete agent contract at https://macuse.app/agent-instructions.md.
