# Koi for Mac (koiscribe.com)
> An assistant that lives on your Mac. It types what you say, sees what you see, and helps whenever and wherever you need it.
Koi for Mac is an app made by Spacerr LLC, at koiscribe.com; the app and the AI assistant in it are both called Koi.
Current version: Koi 1.15.1, released 2026-10-23 (https://koiscribe.com/changelog). This file was last updated 2026-10-23.
## Facts
- Platform: Mac only. macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel. No Windows, iPhone or Android app.
- Keys: Fn + ⌥ dictates, Fn + ⌘ calls Koi and Fn + ⌃ records; each is tapped once to start and again to stop. Control tapped twice opens a chat box to type to Koi. The keys can be changed in Settings.
- On the Mac: speech to text (NVIDIA's Parakeet built in, or another model you download, so dictation works offline), recorded calls' transcripts, audio and video, documents, Koi's calendar and what Koi remembers. They are local files, with no sync and no cloud copy.
- Online: talking or typing to Koi, a recording's notes, study notes and briefs use cloud AI models through Koi's server. During a call the voice goes to the model provider, with a picture of the screen unless that's switched off. A recording's notes send only its transcript's words, and only after a yes to that recording. Explaining or translating a file sends its words. What Koi remembers goes with each question. Nothing sent to the AI carries an account id, and the server keeps what a call cost, never what was said, shown or written.
- Switches, each on from the start and each with its own off: "Show Koi my screen" (with every question to start with; "When I ask" and "Never" are the other choices), "Let Koi write and edit for me", "Let Koi read my apps for me" and "Let Koi use my Mac for me".
- Account: an email address, signed in with a code or with Google.
- Not included: naming each speaker on a call (only "You" and "Them").
- Pricing: there is no free plan; Koi needs a plan to use. Every plan has unlimited dictation, recorded calls, file transcription, documents, calendar, expense tracker and Shift wheel file tools, all run on the Mac; only Koi, the AI assistant, is metered. Pro is $20 a month, or $192 a year ($16 a month, 20% off), with a monthly limit on Koi; the yearly plan gets its Koi month by month too. Both start with a 3-day free trial that needs a card and includes limited use of Koi, then charge for the month or the year picked unless canceled first. Pro can be canceled any time from Settings on the Mac or at koiscribe.com/manage, and isn't refunded unless we fail to deliver. Lifetime is paid once. Its price climbs as it sells ($59 for 25, $99 for 100, $159 for 100, then $199, its final price), and it comes with Koi credit worth 20% of the price that doesn't expire. Lifetime means for as long as Koi is offered. Like Pro, it isn't refunded unless we fail to deliver. Koi top-ups are any whole-dollar amount from $5 to $500 (the app offers $5, $10, $20, $25, $50), don't expire, and are sold to accounts with a plan. Pro and its trial start in the Mac app, which the trial buttons on koiscribe.com download. Lifetime is bought on koiscribe.com or in the app; one bought on the website is there when the user signs in to the app with the email used at checkout.

## Features
- Dictation in any app: Tap Fn + ⌥, talk, and the words land where your cursor is, in any app. Speech is turned into text on the Mac with NVIDIA's Parakeet, or Whisper and others a click away, so it works offline. 100 languages, worked out by itself, and it stops when you go quiet. Unlimited on every plan.
- Dictation that writes like you: The ums and stammers go, “3, no, 4” keeps only the 4, a list you say comes out as a list, and chats and code get no full stop at the end, or pick Casual or Formal for any app. Names on your screen come out spelled right, and a word you fix once is spelled your way from then on. All on the Mac.
- Talk to Koi: Tap Fn + ⌘ once and ask out loud. Koi answers out loud, back and forth, and hangs up after 7 seconds with nothing heard (not while it talks or works), or when you tap the keys again. The microphone is on for the call only. Calls use cloud AI models.
- Koi sees your screen: Ask “what does this error mean?” or “which one do I click?” and it looks at your screen: with every question to start with, or only when you ask, or never.
- Koi points and draws: It circles the exact button, highlights the exact sentence, or draws a diagram, a graph or a sum worked step by step on a board over the screen.
- Record calls: Tap Fn + ⌃ and pick Online call for Zoom, Google Meet, Teams and the like. No bot joins. Your microphone is written down as “You” and the Mac's sound as “Them”, on the Mac, and you pick what's kept: Audio only, one clean audio file of both sides, or Audio and video, the screen filmed with both sides' sound. The audio and the video never leave the Mac. Unlimited on every plan.
- Call notes: Every recording asks “Summarize this call?” or “Summarize this recording?”. Only with a yes, its transcript's words (never the audio or the video) go to Koi's AI, and a title, a short summary, your own to-dos and the headings that kind of call needs go at the top of its document.
- Calendar: Koi's own calendar, one click from the dock: month or week. Koi reminds you in the dock, adds what you ask for by voice (“remind me to call mum at six”) and offers the dates a call agreed on. Connect Google Calendar (as many accounts as you have), Apple Calendar or Apple Reminders to see and change those too, each event once. Invite guests through Google with a Google Meet link, and attach files (to your Google Drive on a Google event).
- Find it in your documents: “What did Sam say about pricing?” on a call: Koi searches your own pages, dictations, recorded calls and chats on the Mac and answers from the best few.
- Follow-up emails: After a call, with a yes to its notes, the email to send them, written the way you talk, one click from a Mail draft.
- Record anything: Record asks: Online call, or In person, for a meeting, a class or a talk in the room, heard through the microphone alone with its sound kept to play back. Notes on a class are a summary, the key points, flashcards and what was set; on a meeting, its summary, decisions and to-dos.
- Transcribe audio and video: Drop in any audio or video file, a voice memo too, and Koi writes it down on the Mac with your speech model, with timestamps. The sound plays back on the page, a yes summarizes it (only the words go to Koi's AI), and it exports as SRT or VTT subtitles.
- Koi reads your files: Say “explain this file” or “translate this letter into English” on a call: Koi talks it through out loud, or saves a translated copy of the same file beside it, a PDF, a Word file or a photo in its own layout. Pick Read aloud or Add expense in Tools, or From a file in the calendar for a booking's dates.
- The Shift wheel: Drag any image and hold Shift: the wheel opens round the pointer. Compress it, edit its metadata, adjust its light and colour, annotate it, put it on a background, crop it, redact faces and text, make a collage, or convert it to PNG, JPEG, HEIC, TIFF, AVIF, BMP or PDF. A video gets its own wheel: trim, crop, compress, mute, speed up, take a snapshot, split, clean its metadata, redact, convert to MP4, MOV, GIF or M4A, or open the video editor. A PDF gets its own too: compress it, organize its pages, edit its metadata, split it, merge several, or convert it to Word, Pages, PowerPoint, Excel, JPG, PNG, text or Markdown. A Word document gets a wheel of formats: Pages, PDF, TXT, Markdown, HTML, PNG or JPG. PowerPoint slides convert to a PDF, or JPG or PNG pictures of every slide. A spreadsheet converts to PDF, ODS, XLSX, CSV or TSV. An EPUB book converts to PDF, Word, Pages, text, Markdown or HTML. An archive extracts, or converts to ZIP, TAR or GZIP, and a folder packs into one. A copy is saved beside the original, made on your Mac. Tap Shift over the desktop to switch light and dark mode, or hide every icon and widget on it.
- Flashcards: Type “/flashcards” in a document, or get them from notes. A Study pill opens the cards one at a time, each coming back when it's due, spaced out the way Anki does it.
- Study notes from anything: Import a PDF, a Word file, PowerPoint slides, Markdown or text, or pick any page, and Koi's AI makes a summary, the key points, flashcards and a multiple-choice quiz.
- Study mode: Koi teaches rather than answers: it circles where your working went wrong, asks what you'd try next, and keeps what you missed as flashcards.
- Replay guides and clips: After a call where Koi showed you around, keep the steps as a page with a picture of each, plus a clip of the call if you film them (macOS 15 and later).
- Live captions in your language: On a recorded call, what the others say shows at the bottom of the screen in your language, translated on the Mac by Apple's Translation (macOS 26 and later).
- Speaking coach: For calls in your second language: a few things you said put more naturally, and words worth practising.
- Type to Koi: Tap Control twice for a chat box that can see your screen and the text you selected. “/” and a name sends a saved prompt.
- Koi offers to record: When Zoom, Meet, Teams, FaceTime, Webex, Slack or Discord starts using your microphone, the dock asks “Record this call?”. Nothing is heard or recorded until you say yes, unless you turn on starting by itself: then Koi starts recording, says so beside the dock, and one click goes back to asking.
- Meeting briefs: A few minutes before a meeting on your calendar, “Brief me” turns your past calls and pages about it into a short brief: where things stood, what to remember, what to ask.
- Koi writes for you: Select text in any app and say “fix the grammar” or “reply that I'll be late”. The changed words are highlighted, and ⌘Z takes it back.
- Documents: A real editor on the Mac: headings, lists, to-dos, color, pictures, tables with spreadsheet formulas and column totals, 11 kinds of chart, LaTeX equations and flashcards. Pages start Normal, or on A4, US Letter, A5 or US Legal paper, and export to Word or PDF. Local files, with no sync and no cloud copy.
- Koi makes documents: “Make me a page comparing these plans” on a call, or “add Netflix to my tracker” from any app.
- Koi uses your Mac: Opens apps and files, makes notes and drafts, controls music, tabs and settings, and clicks and types when nothing direct fits. Its own purple pointer shows every click, and your apps' buttons are pressed without touching yours.
- Koi reads your apps: Today's calendar and what's due, unread mail, open tabs, the page in front, a note, a contact, files by name, when a question needs them.
- Share and copy: Any document to the share menu as a PDF (Mail, Messages, AirDrop, Slack), or copied as Markdown or as text. Guides and study notes you share end with a small “Made with Koi” line, a switch in Settings.
- Export to Markdown: Every document as a Markdown file in a folder you pick, your groups as folders, pictures and files beside them. Ready for Obsidian or Logseq.
- Memory: Your name, your work, how you like answers. Kept on the Mac and sent with each question, every line yours to change or delete.
- Voice commands: Say “new line”, “new paragraph” or “clear all” while dictating. Clear all takes back only what that dictation wrote.
- Snippets: Save a phrase and its text, like “my address” and your address. Say the phrase while dictating and the text is typed instead. Kept on the Mac.
- Expense tracker: Rent, bills and subscriptions: pick one or type any name, its price, whether it's weekly, monthly or yearly and, if you like, the day it's paid, and see what it all comes to a month and a year. Add what you earn too (a salary, your business, client work, a paid promotion, a one-time payment) to see what's left. Kept on the Mac.
- Type in English: Speak another language and dictation types it in English (with Whisper Base, Whisper Small or Granite Speech).
- Your numbers: Words dictated this week and in all, your speed, and the time saved against typing at 40 words a minute. Share them as a picture, made on your Mac.
- Pick your speech model: Parakeet v3 built in; Whisper, Cohere Transcribe, Qwen3-ASR and Granite Speech a download away.
- Ignores noise: Music, videos and loud rooms don't get written down.
- Safe by design: Koi never buys, pays, sends, posts, deletes, signs in or types a password, and that's enforced in the app. It circles the button and lets you press it.
- Your dock, your way: Drag Koi's tab to any edge of the screen and resize it: the dock opens there.
- Your settings: The keys, the voice, the sounds, the look, and every one of Koi's powers is a switch.
- Shortcuts, Spotlight and Raycast: Dictate, record a call or a meeting, open a new document, ask Koi or call it from the Shortcuts app, Spotlight, Raycast or a koi:// link. Ask types your question into the chat, and nothing is sent until you send it. No link or action sends, buys, posts or deletes anything.
- Your AI apps use Koi: Connect Claude, Cursor, Claude Code or Codex in Settings, and they can search and read your documents, calls and dictations, write and edit pages, and keep your calendar, expenses, flashcards, memory and dictionary up to date. It runs on your Mac through MCP; what they read goes to their own AI under their own terms.
- Just ask Koi: Everything new works by voice too: “make flashcards from this page”, “let's study”, “make study notes”, “record this lecture”, “turn on Study mode”, “add Irakli to my dictionary”, “save this as a guide”.
