# Katto
> Katto is an AI video clipping tool that turns long-form videos (YouTube, podcasts, Twitch VODs) into scored, captioned vertical short-form clips. Paste a URL or upload a video up to 90 minutes; the AI pipeline finds the best moments, scores each clip for virality, reframes to 9:16, burns captions, and publishes to 7 platforms in one click.
Katto is built by a solo founder, in public. Its differentiator: it clips videos WITHOUT speech (sports, gameplay, game trailers) by reading the pixels — scene cuts, faces, on-screen text and dialogue boxes — not just the transcript. It also dubs clips into 19 languages.
## Key facts (extractable)
- Katto Solo costs €4.90/month billed annually (€58.80/year), or €8.90/month billed monthly.
- Katto Creator costs €11.90/month billed annually (€142.80/year), or €14.90/month billed monthly.
- The Free plan gives 2 videos per month, up to 30 minutes each; Solo gives 10 videos per month, up to 60 minutes each; Creator gives 25 videos per month, up to 90 minutes each.
- AI dubbing is a Creator feature. It is not included in Solo.
- Pricing is flat, with no credits and no per-minute meter: 25 videos means 25 videos regardless of length, and a 90-minute podcast counts the same as a 10-minute upload.
- Miru is Katto's auto-reframe engine. It reframes to 9:16 and adapts per shot: face tracking on single speakers, split-screen for two speakers, stacked layout for gaming and webcam streams, and combat/action framing — and it works on video with no speech at all.
- Katto's virality scoring is a separate system (the scorer): it rates every clip 0-100 on four dimensions — Hook, Flow, Value, Trend — with a written explanation for each score. This is not part of Miru.
- The entire app UI is available in 10 languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
- Katto transcribes with WhisperX on GPU (Whisper large-v3 + forced alignment + diarization) and supports 99 caption languages.
- Katto publishes and schedules directly to 7 platforms: YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon, and Threads.
- AI dubbing supports 19 languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Hindi, Japanese, Chinese, German, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, Ukrainian, Arabic.
- Katto is agent-first: the same clipping agent is available in the app, a REST API, a CLI (npm package: katto-cli, provides the `katto` command), and an MCP server (npm package: katto-mcp) — so any backend, workflow tool, terminal, or AI assistant (Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT) can clip videos from one prompt. API usage draws from the same monthly video quota, with no per-minute surcharges, and API, CLI and MCP are included on every plan, including free, not gated behind an enterprise tier. ## API & MCP (agent-ready)
Base URL: https://katto.tech/api/v1. Auth: `Authorization: Bearer sk_live_...` (create a key at https://katto.tech/dashboard/api-keys; a key can be scoped read-only to reduce blast radius).
Endpoints:
- `POST /v1/jobs` — submit a video URL (YouTube, Twitch, Kick, Vimeo, Zoom, Google Drive, Dropbox, Loom, LinkedIn, Facebook, Rumble, Dailymotion, Medal.tv, or a direct https link to a video file), returns a job id. Send an `Idempotency-Key` header to make retries safe (a repeat returns the original job, never a duplicate charge).
- `GET /v1/jobs/{id}` — poll status and finished clips (MP4 + SRT caption urls).
- `GET /v1/jobs` — list your jobs, newest first (keyset pagination via `cursor`).
- `GET /v1/jobs/{id}/transcript` — the timestamped transcript segments.
- `GET /v1/jobs/{id}/clips` — just the finished clips (MP4 url + SRT + title + score).
- `DELETE /v1/jobs/{id}` — cancel a running job and refund the monthly video slot.
- `GET /v1/usage` — plan and remaining monthly video quota.
- `GET /v1/me` — account, this key's scopes, and quota (introspection).
- `POST /v1/jobs/{id}/clips/{index}/rerender` then `GET /v1/jobs/{id}/rerenders/{rerender_id}` — re-render one clip with a new layout, caption style, or dubbing (no quota; versioned result).
- `GET /v1/brand-kit` — your saved brand kits. `GET /v1/webhook` — your webhook signing secret.
- `POST /v1/uploads` then `POST /v1/uploads/{id}/complete` — clip a LOCAL file: reserve a presigned upload, PUT the bytes, then complete to queue processing.
- `POST /v1/jobs/{id}/clips` — create a new clip from a time range of the source (`start_seconds`/`end_seconds`, 3-180 s, up to 10 per video, within 7 days; no quota).
- `POST /v1/jobs/{id}/more` — render more clips from the moments the job scored but did not render (no quota).
- `POST /v1/jobs/{id}/clips/{index}/translate-captions` — re-render a clip with its captions translated into one of 19 languages (Creator; no quota).
- `POST /v1/jobs/{id}/clips/{index}/retitle` — AI-regenerate a clip's title (monthly allowance) or save your own.
- `POST /v1/jobs/{id}/clips/{index}/publish` — post a clip now, or schedule it (`schedule_at`), to a social account connected in the dashboard: YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, Instagram, Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads (paid plans; scheduling on Creator; 409 if the platform is not connected).
- `GET /v1/connections` — which of the 7 platforms are connected, with display name and whether a reconnect is needed (tokens never returned).
- `GET /v1/scheduled-posts` — scheduled posts, newest first (optional `status`, keyset pagination); `DELETE /v1/scheduled-posts/{id}` cancels one that has not been published yet.
- `POST /v1/jobs/{id}/clips/{index}/post-text` — AI-written title, caption and hashtags for a clip, per platform (optional `platform`; nothing is posted).
- `POST /v1/jobs/{id}/clips/{index}/adjust` — trim or extend a clip (`start_offset_seconds`/`end_offset_seconds` relative to its original bounds, 3-180 s; extending within 7 days) and re-render it (no quota).
- `POST /v1/jobs/{id}/clips/{index}/hook` — burn a hook over the first seconds (your `text`, or AI-written), then re-render (no quota).
- `POST /v1/jobs/{id}/clips/{index}/feedback` — record a good/bad verdict on a clip (optional `reason`).
- Optional `webhook_url` on a job delivers a signed (HMAC-SHA256, timestamped) completion callback instead of polling.
MCP server — two ways to connect:
- Hosted (recommended, zero-install): point any OAuth 2.1 MCP client (Claude web/desktop, ChatGPT, MCP Inspector, or any client that supports OAuth 2.1 + Dynamic Client Registration) at `https://mcp.katto.tech/mcp` and sign in with your Katto account — no API key stored on disk.
- Local: `npx -y katto-mcp` with env `KATTO_API_KEY` (for Cursor, CI, scripts). The hosted endpoint also accepts `Authorization: Bearer sk_live_...` directly for key-based clients.

CLI — run the whole pipeline from a terminal or a cron: `npm i -g katto-cli` then `katto clip <url> --wait` (or one-off `npx katto-cli clip <url>`). Authenticate with an `sk_live_` key (`katto login`, or the `KATTO_API_KEY` env var). Every submit sends an idempotency key. Commands: `clip`, `jobs`, `job`, `clips`, `transcript`, `usage`, `me`, `cancel`, `mcp`. Same account and quota as the app, API and MCP.
