## Core Positioning
Wring is an offline-first macOS developer toolkit. It lives in the menu bar, opens quickly, and helps developers inspect, transform, generate, compare, and clean up data without account setup, subscriptions, app analytics, app telemetry, or app network access. Users can customize which tools appear as top tabs, keep the rest in More, and switch visible tools with Command-number shortcuts.
## Included Tools
- JWT Inspector: local JWT decode, claim inspection, expiry checks, and HS256/HMAC secret verification.
- Regex Tester: local regular expression testing against sample text.
- Hash Generator: MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, and HMAC generation.
- Encoder / Decoder: Base64, URL, HTML, and hex encode/decode, plus text utilities for case conversion, line deduplication, sorting, and trimming.
- JSON Formatter: format, validate, minify, sort, tree view, and path query.
- Text Diff: compare two text inputs and review unified output.
- Timestamp Converter: Unix timestamp and date conversion.
- Cron Parser: parse cron schedules locally.
- Color Converter: pick colors and convert between color formats.
- UUID Generator: generate UUID values.
- .env Manager: store environment values in the macOS Keychain.
- Load Monitor: local CPU, memory, storage, battery, and device information.
## Workflow Features
- Customizable top tool tabs.
- More menu for tools that are not pinned as top tabs.
- Command + number switching for visible tools while Wring is open.
- Optional shortcut hints in sidebar mode.
- Optional customizable global hotkey for showing or hiding Wring.
## Privacy And Security
The Wring macOS app processes tool input locally. It has no account system, no app analytics, no app telemetry, and no app network client/server entitlement. .env values are stored in the macOS Keychain and can be protected with Touch ID or the device password.
The website uses Google Analytics to understand website traffic. That website analytics does not apply to the Wring macOS app.
## Current JWT Scope
Wring currently supports local JWT decode, inspection, expiry/claim review, and HS256/HMAC secret verification. It does not currently validate JWTs against JWKS endpoints because that would require network access. JWKS validation is being considered as a future explicit, opt-in workflow.
