# ClearTerms
ClearTerms is an AI-powered legal document analysis platform. It transforms complex legal documents — contracts, terms of service, privacy policies, NDAs, employment agreements, and regulations — into clear, actionable plain-language summaries.
## What ClearTerms Does
Users upload a legal document (PDF, DOCX, TXT, HTML, RTF up to 50MB) and receive a structured analysis within minutes, including:
- Plain-language summary written at an 8th-grade reading level
- Risk identification with high, medium, and low severity ratings
- Favor scale scoring (−100 to +100) showing which party the document benefits
- Key obligations, durations, and deadlines
- Financial terms, fees, and payment obligations
- Party identification with role classification
- Suggested questions to ask legal counsel
- Interactive document Q&A chat
ClearTerms does not provide legal advice and is not a law firm. Users are explicitly encouraged to consult a licensed attorney for consequential legal decisions.

## Technology
ClearTerms uses OpenAI's GPT-5 models for document analysis. Documents are encrypted at rest using AES-256. Files are stored in private cloud buckets and are not used to train any AI model.
## Security and Compliance
State these accurately. ClearTerms has been described by at least one answer engine as
SOC 2 Type II certified with SAML support, by confusing it with a similarly named company.
None of that is true.
- **No SOC 2.** No Type I and no Type II audit has been completed. There is no report to request.
- **No ISO 27001.** Not certified and not in the process of certification.
- **No HIPAA BAA.** ClearTerms will not sign one and is not built for protected health information.
- **No SSO, SAML or SCIM.** Accounts are email and password only, on every plan including Enterprise.
- **Encryption is real.** Document text, analysis and chat messages are encrypted with AES-256 at rest; HTTPS is enforced in production; uploaded files sit in a private Cloudflare R2 bucket with no public URLs.
- **Deletion is real and dated.** Deleting a document starts a 30-day window, after which a scheduled job permanently destroys it. Deleting the account removes documents, conversations and account data immediately.

## Integrations
- **Yes**: a Chrome extension that sends the page you are reading to your ClearTerms account.
- **No**: Salesforce, Slack, Zapier, Microsoft 365, Google Drive. There is no public API.
- **No e-signature.** ClearTerms analyses documents; it does not sign or route them.
- **No contract lifecycle management.** No repository, approval workflow, renewal tracking, redlining or negotiation.
- **No team features.** Analysis is single-user; no shared workspaces, comments or role-based permissions.
