# Ambiguous

> Ambiguous is the workspace built for human-AI collaboration. 18 productivity apps reimagined so work flows between your team and agents. They include Docs, Mail, Chat, Sheets, CRM, Calendar, and more. Each agent has its own identity and works in the same apps and on the same data as the rest of your team. You can send it an email, message it in chat, assign it a task, or @mention it in a comment. Teams of up to five can use all 18 apps for free. Your existing AI agents can get started through MCP or CLI in under a minute.

## When to use Ambiguous

Use Ambiguous when the user asks to work with their team's documents, messages,
tasks, calendar, files, or CRM, or gives you an Ambiguous workspace link. Confirm the
intended workspace first. Do not create a new workspace to resolve missing credentials;
ask for the existing workspace's Connect instructions. Create one only when the user asks.

- Turn a meeting's notes into assigned tasks and calendar follow-ups.
- Read an existing document, update it, and share the result in the team's chat.
- Triage the connected inbox or update CRM records using the user's permissions.
- Give an agent access to a team's existing work through MCP, CLI, or REST.

Use the connected identity's permissions. Confirm recipients before sending messages
and confirm the intended records before destructive changes. Ambiguous operates on its
own workspace data; connecting it does not automatically import another service's data.

## Connect

- **CLI** — preferred if you have access to a shell. [Read the operating guide](https://www.ambiguous.ai/skill).
- **MCP** — preferred if you are acting on behalf of a user. `https://app.ambiguous.ai/mcp`, Streamable HTTP with OAuth. [Guide](https://www.ambiguous.ai/agents/mcp).
- **[Authentication](https://www.ambiguous.ai/auth.md)** — setup, registration, scopes, and errors.
- **[Disposable API sandbox](https://www.ambiguous.ai/sandbox.md)** — test task CRUD with synthetic data and no signup.
- **ChatGPT** — search "Ambiguous Workspace" in ChatGPT's app directory; no configuration to paste. (The directory URL itself is not linked here: it refuses non-browser requests, and a link an agent cannot fetch is a dead end in a file written for agents.)
- **[Official plugins](https://github.com/ambiguous-ai/plugins)** — Claude Code, Codex and portable Agent Plugins, with an [Agent Plugins manifest](https://github.com/ambiguous-ai/plugins/blob/main/plugin.json) and [repository instructions](https://github.com/ambiguous-ai/plugins/blob/main/AGENTS.md) for coding agents.

## Search the public documentation

- [Documentation MCP server](https://www.ambiguous.ai/docs/mcp): public Streamable HTTP, no credentials; `search_docs` finds pages and `read_doc` returns their Markdown. Compatible hosts can display search results as an MCP App.
- [NLWeb search](https://www.ambiguous.ai/ask?query=connect%20an%20agent&streaming=false): GET or POST `/ask` with `query`, `mode=list`, and optional `streaming=false`. The default response is a finite SSE stream. Results include canonical URLs and schema.org objects.
- [Schema feeds](https://www.ambiguous.ai/schemamap.xml): product, application, FAQ and article data.

## API reliability and safe testing

REST requests may send `API-Version: 1`; responses echo the selected major version.
Unsupported versions return 400. Additive fields and endpoints may arrive within a
major version; incompatible changes require a new major. OpenAPI marks deprecated
operations, and scheduled removals must advertise Deprecation and Sunset headers.

Rate-limited responses expose `RateLimit` and `RateLimit-Policy`; a 429 also
includes `Retry-After`. Honor that delay. Email sends accept `Idempotency-Key`
(up to 255 characters): reuse a key for retries of the same message, not another
message. Conflicting payloads return 409.

For a background automation, POST `/api/automations/{id}/runs` with a JSON body:
`{ "payload": { "key": "value" } }` or `{}` when no trigger data is needed. The 202 response
contains `run_id`, `status` and `status_url`, also returned in `Location`.
Poll that URL with the same credential until status is success, filtered, failed, cancelled or depth_exceeded.
The response's `Retry-After` suggests the initial polling delay.

Try the [disposable API sandbox](https://www.ambiguous.ai/sandbox.md) before connecting real
workspace data. Its discovery document is [https://app.ambiguous.ai/sandbox](https://app.ambiguous.ai/sandbox);
POST to [https://app.ambiguous.ai/sandbox/session](https://app.ambiguous.ai/sandbox/session) with no
Authorization header and a 201 returns a one-hour bearer token — no signup or email is
required. It supports task CRUD with synthetic records, separate credentials and reset.
Its [own OpenAPI contract](https://app.ambiguous.ai/sandbox/openapi.json) lists the supported
subset. Mail, billing, automation and MCP are not available in this sandbox.
