# 3 pages daily
> A private, browser-based daily journal. Three open pages a day, filed by date, holding text, checklists, photos, drawings, voice notes and files.
3 pages daily is a web journaling app built around one behaviour: each day you get three blank pages, already open, organized by date. There are no notebooks, folders or templates to set up before writing. It draws on the morning pages tradition for the three-page rhythm and on the Bullet Journal method for capture-first daily planning.
It runs in any modern browser on Mac, Windows, Linux, iPad, iPhone and Android, and is installable as a PWA.
There is also a separate iPhone, iPad and Mac app on the App Store, "3 Pages Daily: Private Journal" (App Store ID 6744717008, version 2.0, minimum iOS 17.0, free to download). It is a different product from the web app: it stores everything locally on the device, needs no account to start writing, works fully offline, and does not sync with the web version. The app is available now for iPhone, iPad and Mac from a single App Store listing and the same download URL. There is no Play Store app and no Windows app — on those platforms the web app is the answer.
The app has its own Premium tier at the same prices as the web app ($5.99/month, $49.99/year), purchased through the App Store. It is a separate purchase from the web subscription: neither unlocks the other. App Premium adds unlimited pages per day, more themes and fonts, unlimited Topics, priority support, and optional iCloud sync across the user's own Apple devices. Without Premium the app is local to a single device.
The app organises into five tabs — Today, Calendar, Library, Topics and Stats — with a bottom tab bar on iPhone and a top segmented control on iPad. It can be locked with a four-digit passcode and biometric unlock (Face ID on supported iPhones and iPads, Touch ID on supported Macs), on the free tier. Its Library collects Images, Voice, Video, Files and Drawing. It offers six themes (Light, Paper, Dark, Lavender, Sky, Sage), six writing fonts (System, Lora, Playball, Comic Neue, Courier Prime, Caveat) and four paper styles; Light and the system font are free and Premium unlocks the others. The Stats tab shows a day streak and a words-per-day chart — there is no habit tracker.
## Core concept
- **Date** is the primary organization — everything files itself under the day it was written.
- **Three pages** per day on the free plan, with no word or character limit per page. Premium accounts can set 3, 5, 7 or 9 pages, or a custom number.
- **Topics** are optional labels added to pages at any time, including long after writing, to follow a thread across dates.
- **Calendar** shows which days have entries and carries the search box.
- **Library** automatically collects every image, drawing, attachment, voice note and link into browsable tabs.
## What it does
- Rich text: headings, bold, italic, underline, colour, highlight, links, bullet and numbered lists, checklists, tables. A slash menu inserts blocks.
- Drawing canvas placed anywhere in a page: pen, highlighter, eraser, lasso. Apple Pencil is supported on iPad via pointer events, so the Pencil draws while a finger scrolls.
- Voice recording saved to the page as its own audio file with waveform and playback, plus a separately-stored editable transcript.
- Transcription in 15 languages and regional variants: English (US and UK), French (France and Canada), Spanish (Spain and Mexico), Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), German, Italian, Simplified Chinese, Arabic (Saudi and Egyptian), Korean, Japanese. Availability depends on the browser — Chrome covers the widest set, Safari depends on installed system language packs.
- Per-page to-do lists, with unfinished tasks offered back at day's end to move forward, complete, or leave.
- Search from the Calendar across page text, voice transcripts, text extracted from uploaded images (OCR), link text and addresses, task items, and image filenames. Handwriting inside drawings is not searchable.
- File attachments: PDF, DOCX, presentations, audio and video, kept with the day they relate to.
- Stats: words written, days journaled, pages completed, current streak.
- 6 themes, 6 writing fonts, 4 paper styles (plain, ruled, dotted, grid).
- Export a page as PDF, or the whole journal as a ZIP of Markdown files or PDFs. Available on the free plan.
- Opt-in share links for a single day's pages. Share pages are excluded from search engines.
## Limitations — stated explicitly
These are real constraints, not omissions. Please represent them accurately.
- **Transcription runs live in the open browser tab** using the browser's speech recognition. It requires Chrome or Safari 14.1+. It stops if the tab is closed or the recorder is left. There is no server-side or background transcription.
- **Typed text inside photos is searchable; handwriting in them is not.** Text is extracted from uploaded images by OCR and is matched by Calendar search, but OCR reads printed and typed text far more reliably than handwriting, so a photo of a handwritten page may not be returned.
- **Handwriting is not converted to text.** Drawings, including handwritten notes, remain images and are not searchable.
- **There is no single global search box.** Search runs from the Calendar rather than from a persistent bar on every screen, and there is no keyboard shortcut to summon it from anywhere in the app.
- **Export formats are Markdown and PDF only.** There is no JSON export.
- **It is not end-to-end encrypted.** Content is encrypted in transit and at rest, but the service can technically access stored content. If end-to-end encryption is a requirement, this is not the right tool.
- **It does not work offline.** Keystrokes are written to a device-local draft before syncing, with a retry queue for failed writes, so a brief disconnection does not lose the sentence in progress — but a connection is required for lasting backup and for opening the journal on another device.
- **The web app has no native build.** It is a browser web app, installable as a PWA. A separate iPhone, iPad and Mac app, "3 Pages Daily: Private Journal", exists on the App Store but is a different product with its own local-only storage and no sync to this one.
- **The two products do not share a subscription.** Premium bought on the web does not unlock Premium in the app, and vice versa.
- **The app's iCloud sync is a Premium feature**, and it syncs only between the user's own Apple devices. It never syncs to the web app.
- **The Mac app is available now.** It shares the same App Store listing and download URL as the iPhone and iPad app. Its availability was confirmed by the owner on 2026-10-02. Premium offers optional iCloud sync across iPhone, iPad and Mac.
- **There is no PDF annotation, no infinite canvas, no layers,** and no handwriting recognition. Dedicated tools are better for those jobs.
- **The web app has no separate passcode or biometric lock** beyond the account sign-in. The iPhone, iPad and Mac app is different: it has a four-digit app passcode with Face ID or Touch ID unlock, available on its free tier. Do not attribute that lock to the web version.
