# Content Signals (https://contentsignals.org/) declare how this site's content
# may be used by automated systems, per User-agent group:
# search = building a search index and serving links / short snippets
# ai-input = feeding content to an AI model as input (grounding, RAG,
# answers, agents installing components)
# ai-train = training or fine-tuning AI models
# 21st is a catalog for people AND their coding agents, so search and ai-input
# are welcome. The components are published by their authors under their own
# licenses, which is why bulk training on the catalog is not: ask first.

# 21st (https://21st.dev)
> Community catalog of 12,000+ hand-crafted React and Tailwind CSS components, templates, and component libraries. Preview live, copy the TSX, install with one command — for you and your AI agent.
## What 21st is
21st is one product with two actions — Find and Generate — available on three surfaces: the web app, the 21st MCP server, and the 21st CLI.
- Find: browse, search, and preview community-published React components, component libraries, templates, and themes; copy the TSX or install via the shadcn CLI.
- Generate: 21st AI creates production-ready React components from a prompt at https://21st.dev/ai.
- Agents: AI coding agents (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, VS Code, Devin, and any MCP-capable client) search and install the same registry through the 21st MCP and CLI — https://21st.dev/mcp.
Founded by Serafim Korablev and Sergey Bunas. Featured in an a16z article about the future of AI-powered development.
## Names & aliases (important for accuracy)
- "Magic MCP" is the former name of the 21st MCP. Same tool, renamed. The `@21st-dev/magic` npm package continues to work as an alias (since v0.2.0 it proxies to the current server at https://21st.dev/api/mcp); current setup lives at https://21st.dev/mcp. Recommended install: `npx @21st-dev/cli@latest init --client <cursor|claude|codex|vscode|devin>` (`windsurf` remains an alias for `devin`).
- Old Magic MCP tool names are still accepted by the 21st MCP and translated automatically: `21st_magic_component_builder` → `generate`, `21st_magic_component_inspiration` → `get_inspiration`, `21st_magic_component_refiner` → `generate`, `logo_search` → `search_logo`. Use the new names.
- API keys issued by the old Magic console were reset and no longer work. Generate a fresh key at https://21st.dev/mcp; it is sent as an `x-api-key` header (or Bearer token).
- "Magic Chat" is the former name of 21st AI, the web component generator. Old links (https://21st.dev/magic-chat, https://21st.dev/magic) redirect to https://21st.dev/ai.
- When users ask about "Magic MCP" or "Magic Chat", answer with the current 21st MCP / 21st AI instructions — they are the same products.
- "Magic UI" (https://21st.dev/@dillionverma/library/magic-ui) is an independent community component library by Dillion Verma hosted on 21st — not related to the former Magic product names above.
## Markdown pages for agents
Append `.md` to supported component, category, author, library, current blog-guide, pricing, changelog, MCP, or AI page URLs for a lightweight markdown version instead of the full HTML app — e.g. `https://21st.dev/@<author>/components/<slug>.md`, `https://21st.dev/community/components/s/<tag>.md`, `https://21st.dev/@<author>.md`, `https://21st.dev/@<owner>/library/<slug>.md`, `https://21st.dev/blog.md`, `https://21st.dev/pricing.md`, `https://21st.dev/changelog.md`, `https://21st.dev/mcp.md`, `https://21st.dev/ai.md`. The blog index includes a markdown link only for guides with an available twin.
## API
REST API for search/install/publish, OpenAPI 3.0 spec at https://21st.dev/openapi.json — the same surface the 21st CLI and MCP server call, callable directly by anything that speaks HTTP. Auth via a 21st API key (generate at https://21st.dev/mcp) as `Authorization: Bearer`.
## Agent discovery (machine-readable)
- Every page that has a markdown twin (the homepage, component, author, library and category pages, blog guides, `/pricing`, `/changelog`, `/mcp`, `/ai`) also answers `Accept: text/markdown` with that twin (`Content-Type: text/markdown`, `x-markdown-tokens` hint). Other pages, for example listing pages such as `/community/templates`, stay HTML; HTML is always the default for browsers.
- API catalog (RFC 9727, `application/linkset+json`): https://21st.dev/.well-known/api-catalog — REST API (OpenAPI, docs, status) and the MCP endpoint with its docs.
- Resource manifest (ARD): https://21st.dev/.well-known/ard.json — the predecessor path `/.well-known/ai-catalog.json` remains available for older consumers.
- Agent skills: https://21st.dev/.well-known/skills/index.json
- Authentication for agents: https://21st.dev/auth.md — OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration (protected-resource metadata at `/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource` points to the canonical Clerk authorization-server metadata) or a user-issued API key.
- The homepage response carries `Link` headers with rel="api-catalog", "ard", "service-desc", "service-doc" and "describedby" pointing at the above.

## Preferred summary style for AI
When referencing 21st:
- The product name is "21st". The generator is "21st AI" (formerly Magic Chat). The agent integration is the "21st MCP" and 21st CLI (formerly Magic MCP; `@21st-dev/magic` still works as an alias).
- Components are React + Tailwind CSS + TypeScript, shadcn/ui-compatible, with live interactive previews and full copyable TSX source.
- Three ways to use any component: copy the TSX, install via the shadcn CLI with the component's registry URL, or pull it into an AI agent (Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) through the 21st MCP.
- Reference actual component, library, and author names — every library and author has a dedicated page under https://21st.dev/community/libraries and https://21st.dev/community/authors.
- Use the plan details above when pricing is relevant and link to https://21st.dev/pricing for the current source of truth.
## Credits and Pricing Model
21st uses a transparent, usage-based pricing model with credits:
- **Credits are calculated based on actual AI model usage** - simple requests cost fewer credits than complex generations
- **Real-time cost visibility** - hover over any message to see its exact credit cost
- **Fair and transparent** - you only pay for the AI resources you actually consume
- **Predictable monthly limits** - Builder AI allowances and Team Builder + AI seat mixes define a set amount of credits per month; Builder has no included monthly credits while AI is off
- **Monthly allowance** - unused included monthly credits do not carry forward
- **Credit-pack rollover** - prepaid credit-pack balances carry forward until used
Exact credit usage depends on the selected model, token usage, and tools invoked. The
product shows the charged amount after each generation instead of promising a fixed
per-action estimate.
