# Sui
> Sui is the full stack for a new global economy: a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain built on the Move programming language, combined with Walrus (decentralized storage), Seal (on-chain access control), and Nautilus (trusted off-chain computation). Sub-second finality, 297,000 TPS peak throughput, and average transaction costs under $0.02.
Sui was founded by five engineers from Meta's Diem project and launched mainnet in May 2023. The base chain uses an object-based data model and parallel execution engine that enables true horizontal scalability. The Move programming language was designed from the ground up for asset safety and formal verification. By 2025, Sui had evolved from a standalone Layer 1 into an integrated, composable full stack: the only platform in the space that ships execution, storage, access control, and trusted computation as native, interoperable layers.
Mysten Labs, the company behind Sui, was founded in September 2021 and is backed by a16z, among others.
