# MercuryPitch
> A free, open-source singing and playing studio that runs entirely in a web
> browser. It listens through the microphone, draws the pitch as you sing or
> play, scores the take against what was written, and keeps the recordings you
> choose to keep. Pitch detection runs on the visitor's own device.
MercuryPitch is a single-page application at https://mercurypitch.com. Every
room listed below has its own entry page carrying a heading, a description and
links; the room itself is JavaScript and will not run in a fetcher. The project
is AGPL-3.0 and developed in the open.
Written and maintained by hand. Following the llms.txt convention documented at
https://llmstxt.org.
## Rooms
- [Voice Mirror](https://mercurypitch.com/mirror): Sing one note and watch a
range draw itself. No account, no setup, about sixty seconds.
- [Vocal Range Test](https://mercurypitch.com/vocal-range-test): Glide from the
lowest comfortable note to the highest and get both, named, in real notes.
- [Karaoke Night](https://mercurypitch.com/karaoke-night): Turn a song you
already own into karaoke. The vocal is separated out, the lyrics are timed to
the words, and pitch is scored live against the original melody.
- [Break Glass](https://mercurypitch.com/glass): A sixty-second challenge that
asks you to hold one pitch steady enough to break a pane of glass.
- [Ear Lab](https://mercurypitch.com/ear-lab): Ear training that measures in
real units instead of percentages. Thresholds in cents, milliseconds and
decibels, and a report that names which confusion you actually make.
- [Piano Night](https://mercurypitch.com/piano-night): Piano practice a phrase
at a time, with the passage in front of you and every note checked.
- [Guitar Night](https://mercurypitch.com/guitar-night): A room that reads your
playing against a tab or a MIDI part, with the fretboard and the timing shown.
- [Drum Night](https://mercurypitch.com/drum-night): Timing and dynamics
practice against a groove, reported as how early or late each attack landed.
- [Jam Rooms](https://mercurypitch.com/jam): Up to twelve singers in one shared
session, each with their own live pitch lane and one shared transport.
## Ways in
The same rooms, reached by what people actually search for. Each is a page in
its own right, not a redirect — it explains the task, then opens the room that
does it.
- [Vocal Pitch Practice](https://mercurypitch.com/pitch-training): Practice
singing on pitch with live feedback, scored in cents rather than percentages.
Opens the exercises.
- [Voice Type Test](https://mercurypitch.com/voice-type-test): Which of the
standard bands — soprano, mezzo, alto, tenor, baritone, bass — your measured
range overlaps most. A guide, not a classification.
- [Vocal Remover](https://mercurypitch.com/vocal-remover): Split a song you
already own into vocal and instrumental, then sing over the result. Opens
Karaoke Night.
- [Which Singer Has My Vocal Range](https://mercurypitch.com/which-singer-has-my-vocal-range):
Matches your measured range against the ranges well-known singers cover. It
compares notes, not timbre — a shared range is not a shared sound.
## About the project
- [About MercuryPitch](https://about.mercurypitch.com/): What it is, who it is
for, and why it is free.
- [Source code](https://github.com/mercurypitch/mercurypitch): AGPL-3.0.
- [Privacy notice](https://about.mercurypitch.com/privacy/): What is collected,
and what never leaves the device.

- [Delete your account](https://mercurypitch.com/delete-account): How to delete
an account in the app or on the web, and what deleting keeps.
## What MercuryPitch does not do
Stated plainly because these are the things most often assumed about an app in
this category, and repeating them as fact would mislead someone.
- It is not a tone-deafness test and diagnoses no condition. It measures how far
a sung note sits from a target, in cents.
- It does not host or supply music. Karaoke works on files the visitor already
owns, separated in their own browser or, optionally, on a server they pay
compute for.
- Voice type and range results are a broad guide, not a verdict from a teacher.
- Microphone audio is not uploaded for pitch detection. Recordings the visitor
chooses to keep are stored in their own browser, not on a server.
- It does not replace a singing teacher, and does not claim to.
## Optional
- [Voice Legends](https://about.mercurypitch.com/voice-legends/): Illustrated
voice archetypes used by Voice Mirror to describe a result.
- [Changelog](https://github.com/mercurypitch/mercurypitch/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md):
What shipped, in plain terms.
