Which WordPress theme, and which parent theme, is this site using?
WordPress loads the active theme's files from /wp-content/themes/<slug>/, and every theme starts its style.css with a header naming it: Theme Name, Author, Version and Theme URI. We find the theme folders the homepage references and read that header, so it works for any theme, including ones nobody has catalogued.
Child themes are where detectors slip. A child theme's page also loads its parent's files, often more of them, so the most referenced folder can be the parent. We read the style.css of each candidate and, when one names another as its Template, report the child as the active theme and the parent alongside it, with the parent's own name and version.
We also check the WordPress version. Many sites print it in a generator tag, and WordPress adds it as a ?ver= number to its own core files. We compare it with the latest release from WordPress.org, so you can see at a glance whether a site is behind on updates.
Limits: some hosts and security plugins block style.css or rename the theme folder, in which case we can only show the folder name. Sites that serve their theme assets from a CDN with rewritten paths may hide the theme entirely.
Paste the site's address above. We find the theme folder in the page source and read the theme's style.css header for its name, author and version.
A child theme inherits its templates and styles from a parent theme and only overrides parts of it. Many sites customise a theme like Astra or GeneratePress through a child theme, so the parent is the theme you'd actually install.
The site blocked or removed its style.css, so all we can see is the folder the theme is served from. The folder name is often the theme's slug, which is enough to search for it.
Paste the address above. We read the version from the generator tag or the version numbers on WordPress's own core files, and say whether it's the latest release. Sites that hide both can't be checked from outside.
The full report for the site lists the plugins we recognise. A dedicated plugin detector is coming.
