A content management system leaves fingerprints: a generator meta tag, asset paths like /wp-content/ or cdn.shopify.com, cookies, response headers and the scripts it loads. We check the homepage against rules for over 100 CMSs, site builders and e-commerce platforms, from WordPress and Shopify to headless CMSs like Contentful and Sanity.
The quick check reads the homepage HTML and headers only, which takes a few seconds. Our full scan also renders the page in a browser and checks DNS and well-known files, so it catches more. It runs in the background, and the full report for the site links from the result.
Limits: a headless CMS often leaves no trace in the HTML, because the content is fetched at build time. Static site generators sometimes remove their generator tag. When nothing matches, we say so rather than guess.
Paste the address above. We look for the markers each CMS leaves in the page: generator tags, asset paths, cookies, headers and scripts.
Custom-built sites have no CMS, and headless CMSs often leave nothing in the HTML. Some sites also strip the tags that give their platform away.
Yes. E-commerce platforms are checked too, and a Shopify or WordPress result links to the theme detector for that platform.
Each result has a confidence light: how many independent signals matched. Specific markers like a platform's own asset domain count for more than a generic one.
