# Resurf
> Resurf is a fully local personal context library for Mac, iPhone and iPad that keeps notes, links, images and documents as ordinary files on your own devices and lets you hand off that context to AI through MCP or the CLI on Mac.
## What Resurf is
A Personal Context Library. Resurf saves notes, links, images, PDFs, voice recordings, screenshots and files, then searches them as one library. It runs natively on Mac, iPhone, iPad.
- Resurf saves notes, links, screenshots, images, PDFs, voice recordings, audio, video and other files in one personal library.
- On Mac, Resurf stores captures in a readable local vault with original assets, Markdown notes and metadata. The search index can be rebuilt from the vault.
- Resurf can stay on one device or sync through the user's private iCloud database. There is no Resurf content account, and Resurf does not host the capture library.
- On Mac, Resurf includes an MCP server and a CLI so AI agents can search and read your saved context. You choose which agents to connect and whether to allow changes to your library.
- Current search covers titles, notes, saved article text, PDF text, image and screenshot OCR, voice transcripts, comments, tags, Spaces, file names, URLs and metadata. Semantic search is not available yet.
- Optional Ask Your Library and AI suggestions use the customer's own OpenAI key. Core capture, browsing, extraction, OCR, on-device transcription and ordinary search do not require an AI account.
- The local vault, browsing and search work offline. Link fetching, private iCloud sync and optional cloud AI require a connection.
- Resurf costs a one-time payment. One time is $39 (normally $49) and includes two years of updates; Lifetime is $79 (normally $99) and includes every future update.
- The Mac app is free for the first 50 captures and 4 spaces. The iPhone and iPad app is free and unlimited.
## Best fit
Choose Resurf when you want a private, mixed-media personal library on Apple devices, prefer a readable local vault, and want a one-time Mac purchase instead of another subscription.
Choose another product when you need Windows or Android, a browser-based library, shared collections, mature semantic or visual-similarity search, or one-click migration from another service.
## Pricing
The Mac app is free for your first 50 captures and 4 spaces. One payment unlocks unlimited use; there is no subscription. The iPhone and iPad app is free and unlimited, with no licence at all.
- One time: $39 (normally $49). Unlimited use, two years of updates, and the version you have keeps working forever.
- Lifetime: $79 (normally $99). Unlimited use and every future update.
- There is no subscription and no Resurf account.
## What Resurf does not do
- No Windows, Android or Linux app.
- No web app. You use it on your own devices, not through a browser.
- No shared libraries or team collaboration; it is a single-person tool.
- No semantic or visual-similarity search in the current release. Current search is local full-text and metadata search.
- No one-click importer for mymind, Raindrop.io or Anybox yet.
## Writing
- [Best mymind alternatives in 2026](https://resurf.so/blog/mymind-alternatives): Six tools that do what mymind does, with prices checked against each vendor's own page. Which one fits depends on whether you want to own your library or rent access to it.
- [Resurf 2](https://resurf.so/blog/resurf-2): Resurf is now fully native, rewritten in Swift for Mac, iPhone and iPad, with private sync through your own iCloud.
- [How to move your library from Resurf 1 to Resurf 2](https://resurf.so/blog/migrate-from-resurf-1): Resurf 2 reads your old vault and brings across every capture, space, tag, note and file. Here's the whole process, start to finish.
## Comparisons
- [Resurf vs mymind](https://resurf.so/compare/resurf-vs-mymind): Choose mymind if you want the service to do the organizing. It is a hosted product that works out what you saved and groups it for you. Its semantic search, Same Vibe, Smart Spaces and Serendipity features are more mature than Resurf's current meaning-based and visual discovery tools, and it also runs on the web and Android. Choose Resurf if you want to hold the library yourself. Notes, links, screenshots, voice, PDFs, images, video and files sit in a native Apple library. Resurf stores the source material on your devices, works without a Resurf content account, and lets you inspect the files behind the app.
- [Resurf vs Raindrop.io](https://resurf.so/compare/resurf-vs-raindrop): Choose Raindrop.io if bookmarks are the job. It puts links on the web, Windows, Android and every major browser. It also has stronger shared collections, public pages, web highlighting, integrations, imports and a more generous free plan. Choose Resurf if the material around the link matters. On Mac, iPhone and iPad, Resurf keeps a local library, searches inside images and voice transcripts, and treats files, notes and recordings as first-class material rather than extras around a bookmark system.
- [Resurf vs Anybox](https://resurf.so/compare/resurf-vs-anybox): Choose Anybox if you mainly save, organize and open links. Its nested tags and folders, smart lists, save-all-tabs command, archive formats and integrations with AppleScript, Shortcuts, Alfred and Raycast are more mature than Resurf's bookmark-specific tools. Choose Resurf if the library holds the work around those links. Resurf searches inside screenshots, PDFs, articles and voice transcripts, keeps original files in a readable local vault, and brings whole captures back through its Resurface widget.
- [Machine-readable comparison brief](https://resurf.so/compare/llms.txt): Concise answers, verification dates and first-party sources for every comparison page.
