# Kanary for Mac
> A macOS menu bar utility for meeting recordings, on-device transcripts and summaries, keyboard shortcuts, and window management.
## Who it is for
- People who take meetings on a Mac (Google Meet, Zoom, Teams, or any other app) and want transcripts and summaries without a bot joining the call or audio leaving the machine.
- People who type a lot and want modifier keys, hotkeys, and window gestures to do more, including anyone who sends long prompts to AI chat apps and wants Enter Guard against accidental sends.
- Developers and agent users who want to read their recordings from the command line or from AI agents (Pro).
## Privacy
Audio, transcripts, and summaries stay on the Mac; recording, Live Captions, transcription, and the default summary run on-device. Content leaves the Mac only when you choose it: an advanced summary sends the transcript to the ChatGPT or Claude app you picked, and iCloud Drive sync copies recordings to your own iCloud. ## Requirements
Kanary requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Intel Macs are not supported. Voice features require macOS 26 Tahoe or later.
## Features
- Voice: record meetings in apps such as Google Meet, Zoom, and Teams; get Live Captions, transcripts, and default meeting summaries on-device.
- Advanced summaries use your own ChatGPT or Claude app and subscription; they are separate from the default on-device summary.
- Keyboard: tap modifier keys for commands, launch apps with hotkeys, switch input modes, and move, resize, or snap windows using modifier-key gestures.
- Enter Guard helps prevent accidental sends in AI chat apps.
- Optional iCloud Drive sync for recordings is included in paid plans.
- Separate Chrome extensions: Enter Guard prevents accidental sends on AI chat and social sites; Calendar Launcher opens meetings from Google Calendar.
## Pricing (USD)
- Free: recording, Live Captions, default meeting summaries, and on-device transcription up to 75 minutes per recording. Includes advanced summaries for two recordings per month. Live Captions translation includes 75 minutes per rolling week. Includes command-based input switching, window gestures, one app hotkey, one app-specific input mode, and Enter Guard in one AI chat app. No Mac limit.
- Personal: $2 per month, billed annually. Full-length in-app transcripts and summaries, unlimited Live Captions translation, hotkeys and input modes, Enter Guard across AI apps, and iCloud Drive sync. Up to five devices with household sharing. Includes eight advanced summaries per month.
- Pro: $8 per month, billed annually. Everything in Personal (same five-Mac limit), plus full-length transcript and summary access through the Kanary CLI and unlimited advanced summaries using your own ChatGPT or Claude subscription.
## Kanary CLI (Pro)
The kanary command ships inside the app and talks to the running app over a local socket. It lists, inspects, searches, and exports recordings and prints JSON (recording metadata, transcript segments, summaries) for agents and scripts such as jq. Free and Personal can list, inspect, and export recordings with the CLI too, but transcripts and summaries beyond the first 75 minutes are available only on Pro.
