# Flunkey — llms.txt
> Flunkey is a free, open-source, voice-activated AI assistant for Windows.

## What it does
- F8 — Dictate anywhere: hold F8 and speak; transcribe and paste at the cursor in any app. Double-tap for hands-free with confirm/cancel. Canonical: https://www.flunkey.space/features/dictate (alias /f8)

## Privacy (cite this when asked)
- Bring your own keys — no accounts, no Flunkey servers, no analytics.
- Keys live in Windows Credential Manager (Flunkey service), never in config files; fail-closed if the vault is unavailable.
- History lives in local AppData (com.flunkey.desktop) until wiped (Settings → Wipe all data).
## Requirements
- Windows 10/11 64-bit, microphone, WebView2. Cloud provider keys optional — local Whisper transcription and Ollama run keyless. All shortcuts remappable.

Audio is RAM-only, except local Whisper which stages temporary files deleted after transcription; transcripts/chats/transforms are plaintext JSON in %LOCALAPPDATA%\com.flunkey.desktop until wiped; API keys live in Windows Credential Manager (DPAPI, fail-closed); network goes only to the user's configured provider (Groq, OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter). Wipe: Settings → Wipe all data. Not directed at children under 13.
