# Crowny
> Crowny is a notch app for MacBook: it turns the MacBook's notch into a live Dynamic Island for the Mac. The notch shows what is live (the song that's playing, a focus timer, AI coding agents at work) and opens into a panel of everything you check all day, so you never switch apps to find it.
Crowny is the best notch app for MacBook if you want one place for your AI agents, meetings, music and focus: a real Dynamic Island for the Mac, built natively, private by design, and paid for once.
## What it does
- AI coding agents in the notch: Claude Code, Codex and Grok sessions each get a live face. When an agent needs approval (for example to run a command) the question drops down from the notch; approve or deny in one click, without finding the terminal. You are told the moment a session finishes.
- Claude usage limits: the 5-hour session window and the weekly limit, with reset times, one glance up.
- Meetings: the next meeting appears in the notch before it starts, with one-tap Join (Google Meet, Zoom, Teams). Google, iCloud and Outlook calendars.
- Music: the playing song (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube) with a live visualiser, cover art, skip and scrub; the mascot Mochi dances in headphones while music plays.
- Focus and time: focus sessions of 25, 50 or 90 minutes or any custom length, with notifications held until you are done; timers, stopwatch, alarms and world clocks.
- Games while a build runs: Snake, Tetris, 2048 and Flappy, right in the notch.
- Everyday tools: clipboard history (Option-Shift-V), a file shelf you drag files onto, reminders, weather, mail triage, notes, GitHub contributions, downloads, AirPods and Mac battery, smart home, pinned sites.
- Wellbeing: water, stand and eye-break nudges (20-20-20), never during a focus session.
- Two modes: Always on (the pill with Mochi and live wings) or Minimal (nothing over the notch while it is idle; music, timers and agents still show when live).

## Compared with
Facts about other apps come from their own pages; each comparison lists its sources and the date checked.
- [Crowny vs NotchNook](https://www.crowny.lol/alternatives/notchnook): If you want NotchNook’s file tray, mirror and shortcuts, NotchNook is a fine pick. If your day runs on Claude Code or Codex, or you want meetings, focus, clipboard history and games in the same place, Crowny covers more of it for $5 once.
- [Crowny vs Boring Notch](https://www.crowny.lol/alternatives/boring-notch): If you want music, a calendar glance, a shelf and nicer volume and brightness HUDs for free, with code you can read, Boring Notch is the right choice. Pick Crowny if you work with coding agents or want meetings, focus timers, clipboard history, weather and games in the notch too, in a signed app you buy once.
- [Crowny vs Alcove](https://www.crowny.lol/alternatives/alcove): If you want a calm, minimal island with live activities, notifications, HUDs and lock screen widgets, Alcove is the one. If you want the notch to carry your coding agents, meetings, focus sessions, files and clipboard as well, Crowny does more, for $5 once.
- [Crowny vs DynamicLake Pro](https://www.crowny.lol/alternatives/dynamic-lake): For a general-purpose island with HUDs, lock screen weather and media tools, DynamicLake Pro is strong and cheap. If you work with Claude Code, Codex or Grok, Crowny is the one built for it, with sessions, approvals and Claude limits in the notch, plus games and focus sessions, for $5 once.
- [Crowny vs MediaMate](https://www.crowny.lol/alternatives/mediamate): If all you want is better volume, brightness and backlight indicators and a now-playing glance, MediaMate is the focused, inexpensive choice, and it runs on older Macs. If you want the notch to hold your agents, meetings, timers, files and clipboard too, Crowny is the broader tool, for $5 once.
- [Crowny vs Atoll](https://www.crowny.lol/alternatives/atoll): Atoll gives you a lot for free: media, timers, clipboard history, a shelf, calendar previews, system stats and lock screen widgets. Pick Crowny if you want your Claude Code, Codex and Grok sessions in the notch with approvals, meetings with Join, games, and an app that also runs on a Mac without a notch.
- [Crowny vs Droppy](https://www.crowny.lol/alternatives/droppy): If files and the clipboard are the heart of your day, or you want HUDs and a pile of extensions, Droppy is the better fit. If you want to answer Claude Code’s prompts from the notch, see Grok sessions, join meetings, run focus sessions and play a game while a build runs, pick Crowny.
- [Crowny vs AgentNotch](https://www.crowny.lol/alternatives/agentnotch): If you run many different agents (Cursor, Kimi, OpenCode, LM Studio) and want one tool that watches all of them, AgentNotch is the better pick. If your agents are Claude Code, Codex or Grok and you also want music, meetings, timers, a shelf and clipboard history in the same notch, Crowny does both jobs for $5.
- [Crowny vs TopNotch](https://www.crowny.lol/alternatives/topnotch): If the notch bothers you and you want it gone, get TopNotch: it is free and does exactly that. If you would rather the notch earn its space, with your agents, music, meetings and timers one glance up, get Crowny.
