# Workmode
> Workmode is a community-built directory of places to work remotely from — coffee shops, coworking spaces, libraries, hotel lobbies and public spaces in hundreds of cities worldwide. Places are rated by remote workers on wifi, noise and comfort, and their wifi speed is measured by people running a speed test while they are there.
Every page listed here is server-rendered HTML with schema.org structured data (LocalBusiness, ItemList, BreadcrumbList, ProfilePage, BlogPosting, Dataset), so it can be read without running JavaScript. You are welcome to read, summarise and cite it; please link to the page you are citing.
## How the site is organised
- [Cities](https://workmode.co/cities): every city with places listed, searchable, sortable by number of places.
- City page, `https://workmode.co/{city}`: all places in a city, e.g. [Bangkok](https://workmode.co/bangkok) or [Canggu](https://workmode.co/canggu). Sortable by recommendation, measured wifi speed or newest.
- Kind of place in a city, `https://workmode.co/{city}/{kind}`: where `{kind}` is one of `cafe`, `coworking`, `library`, `hotel-lobby`, `public-space`, `other` — e.g. [coworking spaces in Bangkok](https://workmode.co/bangkok/coworking).
- Place page, `https://workmode.co/{city}/{place}`: one place — address, opening hours, amenities, measured wifi, ratings and reviews, and the members who have worked there. E.g. [Nitro Coffee, South Jakarta](https://workmode.co/south-jakarta/nitro-coffee).
- Who's in a city, `https://workmode.co/{city}/people`: members who recently checked in there, and the ones who live there.
- Best-for lists, `https://workmode.co/{city}/best/{list}`: where `{list}` is `fast-wifi` (measured 25 Mbps or faster); `quiet`, `power-outlets`, `aesthetic` (atmosphere), `spacious` (room to spread out), `air-conditioned` or `good-food` (community score 4/5 or higher); `study` (4/5 or higher for both quiet and seating, plus every library); `good-coffee` (4.5/5 or higher); `open-late` (open until 21:00 or later), `open-early` (opens by 7:00) or `open-sunday` (open on Sundays). A list exists once three places in the city qualify — e.g. [quiet places in Bangkok](https://workmode.co/bangkok/best/quiet).
- Wifi report, `https://workmode.co/{city}/wifi`: every place in the city with a measured speed, fastest first, with the city's median download and upload, the spread by speed band, the latest tests, and the country's median for comparison — e.g. [wifi speed in Berlin](https://workmode.co/berlin/wifi). Published once three places in the city are measured; the page carries schema.org `Dataset` markup.
- New places, `https://workmode.co/{city}/new` and [site-wide](https://workmode.co/new): the most recently added places, newest first, with the date each was added.
- [Countries](https://workmode.co/countries), and a country, `https://workmode.co/countries/{country}`: its cities, its most worked-from places and its fastest measured wifi — e.g. [Japan](https://workmode.co/countries/japan).
- [Work now](https://workmode.co/now): places open right now near the visitor, using their device's clock and each place's opening hours.
- Open now in a city, `https://workmode.co/{city}/now`: places open right now in that city, using the city's own local time — e.g. [open now in Bangkok](https://workmode.co/bangkok/now).
- [How it works](https://workmode.co/how-it-works): how speed tests, verified check-ins, ratings and lists work, as questions and answers.
- Member profile, `https://workmode.co/@{username}`: a member's check-ins, reviews, badges and the cities they have worked from.
- Saved lists, `https://workmode.co/@{username}/lists/{list}`: a list of places a member has made public, in their order and with their notes. A member's public lists are at `https://workmode.co/@{username}/lists`. Lists are private unless their owner shares them.
- [Leaderboard](https://workmode.co/leaderboard): top contributors, explorers (most cities) and fastest wifi, by week, month, year or all time.
- [Community](https://workmode.co/community): the live feed of check-ins, reviews and posts.
## How to read the data
- **Wifi speed** is download and upload in Mbps from speed tests run inside the venue. A check-in is *verified* when the phone reported a location within 500 m of the place, and within twice its own GPS accuracy. A place's headline speed comes from these measurements, including ones filed without an account.
- **Ratings** are 1–5 from member reviews, with separate scores for wifi, noise and comfort. Where a Google rating is shown, it is labelled as Google's and is never mixed into the community's own score.
- **Price level** is `$` to `$$$$`.
- **Opening hours** are in the city's local time. A day with no hours listed is shown as closed.
- **Ranks** (Newcomer to Legend) count a member's check-ins plus reviews. **Badges** mark specific achievements, such as working from three countries or measuring a connection faster than 100 Mbps.
- A place with no measurement has an unknown speed, not a slow one.
## MCP server
Workmode has a read-only [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) server at `https://api.workmode.co/mcp` (Streamable HTTP, no sign-in). Add it to an assistant as a custom connector to query the directory directly:
- `search_cities`: find a city and its slug.
- `get_city`: how many places of each kind a city has, which best-for lists exist there, and links to its wifi report and newest places.
- `list_places`: places in a city, by kind, by best-for list, or sorted by fastest measured wifi.
- `get_place`: one place — hours, amenities, measured wifi, community scores and recent reviews.
- `open_now`: places open right now in a city, at the city's local time.
- `wifi_report`: a city's measured wifi — median download and upload, the spread, and every measured place.
- `list_countries` and `get_country`: countries with places listed, and one country's cities, busiest places and fastest wifi.
- `new_places`: the most recently added places, site-wide or in one city.
- `get_saved_list`: a list a member has made public, from its link.
Every result includes the URL of its page on workmode.co.
