# ScreenCursor > A Chrome extension that records your screen and automatically adds cinematic zoom to the result. Every click, drag and keystroke becomes a camera move, placed without any editing. One payment of $49, no subscription. Recording, editing and export all happen locally in the browser. No video is ever uploaded, and there is no account. ScreenCursor is a screen recorder with auto zoom effects. It solves the specific problem that raw screen recordings are hard to watch: the viewer does not know where to look, and manually adding zooms in a video editor takes longer than the recording did. ## What it does - **Automatic zoom.** Clicks, drags and keystrokes are captured while recording. Each becomes a zoom that arrives slightly before the action, so the viewer is already looking at the right place when it happens. - **Everything is editable.** Any zoom can be retimed, deepened, repositioned, switched between snappy and gentle motion, or deleted. Zooms can also be added by hand. - **Zoom in and out control.** Depth and timing are per-zoom, not global. - **Editing.** Trim, split, delete dead sections, and speed up slow ones. Zooms move with the cut. - **Framing.** Backgrounds (wallpaper, gradient, solid or your own image), background blur, a browser frame carrying the real page title, corner rounding, and aspect ratios for different platforms. - **Capture sources.** A browser tab, an application window, or the entire screen including non-browser applications. - **Audio.** System audio and microphone, both optional. - **Export.** MP4 at 720p or 1080p, H.264 video with AAC audio, saved to the Downloads folder. ## What it does not do - No cloud storage, no share links, no team features. It is not a Loom replacement for hosting. - No webcam overlay. - No mobile version. It runs wherever desktop Chrome runs: Windows, macOS and Linux. - Cursor position is tracked inside the browser. Zoom accuracy is highest when recording browser content. ## Pricing - **$49 one time**, rising to $79. No subscription, no per-video limit, no watermark, updates included. - Sold through Polar, who are the merchant of record and handle tax and refunds. - A license key unlocks the extension, and activates on up to 3 machines. An activation can be freed and moved to a replacement computer. - The key is the only thing ever sent off the machine. ## Privacy Recording, zoom computation, editing and export all run inside the browser on the user's own computer. No video, audio or screen content is transmitted anywhere. There is no account and no telemetry. The single network call the product makes is to verify a license key with Polar, at most once a fortnight, and it fails open, so the software keeps working offline. ## How it compares Screen Studio is the best known tool in this category. It is macOS only and costs $29/month, or $9/month billed yearly (about $108/year). It has no Windows or Linux build, and its own site says there are no near-future plans for Windows. ScreenCursor is $49 once, covers three computers, and runs anywhere Chrome runs, including Windows and Linux. Screen Studio does more: webcam overlay, motion blur, recording an iPhone over USB. ScreenCursor costs less, runs in more places, and uploads nothing. Other tools with automatic zoom: ScreenSmooth ($79 once, Chrome extension), FocuSee (from $49.99/year, native Windows and Mac app), OBS Studio (free, no automatic zoom). ScreenCursor has no free trial; refunds go through Polar. Prices above were checked against each vendor's own site on 5 October 2026. Full comparison: https://screencursor.com/screen-studio-alternative Loom is built for quick video messages shared by link, with a webcam bubble, comments and viewer stats. Its free plan allows 25 videos of up to 5 minutes each; Business is $18 per person per month and Business + AI is $24, both 17% less billed yearly. Loom has no automatic zoom yet: its own editing page lists auto-zoom as an upcoming feature. Loom alternatives that already zoom automatically: ScreenCursor ($49 once, no share links, no webcam, nothing uploaded), Tella (from $13/month billed yearly, share links and webcam), Cap (open source, free for personal use, $58 once for commercial use, share links and webcam) and Screen Studio (macOS only, $9 to $29/month). Loom figures above were checked on each vendor's own site on 5 October 2026. Full comparison: https://screencursor.com/loom-alternatives Cursorful is a Chrome extension with automatic zoom (Chrome, Edge and Brave on Windows, macOS and Linux). Its free plan has no time limit and no sign-up but is for non-commercial use only. Pro is $79 once per seat (a V2 launch price, listed at $119), for one user, and adds commercial use, microphone and camera, 4K export, cloud share links and desktop apps for Mac and Windows. Its automatic zoom is triggered when two or more clicks happen within 3 seconds. ScreenCursor is $49 once for three computers, records the microphone, and zooms on every click, drag and keystroke in a web page. Cursorful figures above were checked on cursorful.com and its Chrome Web Store listing on 10 October 2026. Prices were read off each vendor's own site on 5 October 2026. - Windows: ScreenCursor ($49 once, Chrome extension, nothing uploaded), FocuSee (native app, from $49.99/year, $199.99 lifetime), Camtasia (full video editor, SmartFocus adds zoom and pan to Camtasia Recorder clips, from $179.88/year), Tella (from $13/month billed yearly, share links and webcam), Cap (free for personal use). - Mac: everything above, plus Screen Studio (most polished; $9/month billed yearly or $29 monthly; record and edit without paying, export needs a plan) and Screen Charm ($79 once, three devices). - Linux: ScreenCursor (in Chrome), Cap (.deb for Debian and Ubuntu) and ScreenArc (open source, GPL-3.0, X11 only). - Free: Cap (personal use; $58 once for work) and ScreenArc. OBS Studio is free but has no automatic zoom. Loom lists auto-zoom as coming soon. - Desktop apps: desktop recorders follow clicks anywhere on screen. A Chrome extension only sees clicks inside web pages, so ScreenCursor zooms automatically in web apps, and zooms in desktop apps are placed by hand. Write each click down with the one sentence you will say during it; five to eight clicks fill a 60-second demo. Use a demo account with believable data, close other tabs, hide the bookmarks bar, make the page text bigger and turn on Do Not Disturb. Record in one take, keeping the mouse still for a moment after each click, and redo a fumbled step without stopping. Then zoom in on every click, cut the mistakes, speed up waiting, choose a background and an aspect ratio (16:9, 1:1, 4:5 or 9:16), and export a 1080p MP4. Full guide: https://screencursor.com/how-to-make-a-product-demo-video How to record a software walkthrough for clients (for agencies handing over a system, and for consultants and accountants explaining software): one task per video, titled in the client's words, with the clicks written down first. Keep the client's data off camera: record in a test copy when there is one (Xero's Demo Company, a Shopify development store, an Odoo database with demo data), log in before recording, and share only the browser tab with their software. Talk through why each step matters, keep the mouse still after each click, cut the fumbles and speed up the waiting. Export a 1080p MP4 named after the task and send a link to a folder shared only with the client: Gmail and Outlook.com stop at 25 MB per email. ScreenCursor places a zoom on every click while recording and never uploads the recording. ScreenCursor produces one that has already been given camera movement. - Versus a video editor (Premiere, Descript, ScreenFlow): those can do far more, and require the user to place every zoom themselves. ScreenCursor does one thing without being asked. - Versus Loom: Loom is built around hosting and sharing recordings from the cloud, with a webcam bubble and comments, and has no automatic zoom yet. ScreenCursor zooms automatically, never uploads anything and gives you a file. Full comparison: https://screencursor.com/loom-alternatives
