# Saliency > Saliency is the operating system for video understanding. Local and frontier models, local and cloud data, evals, and S-Roll, the harness that turns footage into judged moments without uploading anything. Saliency is a brand name used by Ritik Bompilwar, an individual developer. It is not a company. ## The stack - Data, local and cloud - Models, local and frontier - Evals, in the lab - Harness, S-Roll ## S-Roll S-Roll is the first app on the stack: an on-device AI video clipping app for Mac that turns long videos into scored, editable clips. You can also chat with the transcript to find an exact moment and create matching clips. It uses Google or Apple sign-in and stores basic account activity, but videos, transcripts, chats, projects, and clips are never uploaded. Version 1.0.11 is on the Mac App Store, free, for adults aged 18 or older on Apple silicon Macs running macOS 26 or later: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/s-roll/id6797672854 - Private AI video clipping. Import, transcription, moment discovery, editing, and rendering all run on-device. - Long video to short clips. A clipping agent drafts candidates and scores each one on six axes, with its reasoning shown. - Chat to clip. Ask for a moment in plain language and S-Roll finds it in the transcript and creates matching clips. - Subject tracking. Renders keep the subject framed, clip after clip. - At first launch the app downloads its machine-learning models, about 6 GB, over HTTPS from Hugging Face and verifies them against pinned checksums. It also connects for sign-in, account checks, and updates; video processing stays local. - Downloading and signing in require confirmation that the user is 18 or older and agrees to the S-Roll Terms and Privacy. ## Pages - [Saliency](https://saliency.dev/): the stack and S-Roll - [S-Roll](https://saliency.dev/s-roll): product page and support page for the macOS app - [S-Roll Terms and Use Guidelines](https://saliency.dev/s-roll/terms): plain-language rules for using and publishing with the app - [S-Roll Privacy](https://saliency.dev/s-roll/privacy): local content, account information, and basic analytics ## Contact ritik@saliency.dev
